the boy...

in my eternal, annoying and impatient wait to find out who our son will be and what he will look like i resort to venting through canvas. alas, it is helpful that i was asked to do a painting to donate to the early learning institute (leo's school) for their spring gala. keep or donate? donate or keep?

i give you "the boy".

the latest on the house...

so we have tile, and hardwood should be in by the end of the month. supposedly the trench for the water (which should have gone in before the house was built) will be in this week. we'll see. but for now, here's a view of the front...it's coming along! not fast enough!

today was lovely

if you're reading this you probably already know that you helped make today even better. i felt special and loved today by all of those who contacted me...and even those who didn't. today was great. today was peaceful for the most part. it was quiet. it was active. it was happy. it was warm. it was good.

one year ago today i was spending the evening with a nurse from bosnia at presbyterian hospital in charlotte, nc. i was bleeding pretty much uncontrollably and facing surgery after an endoscopy and a colonoscopy and my head was pounding steadily. i was very lucky to recover and that is partly because of the sweet bosnian nurse who took care of me. today i wished that i remembered her name so that i could let her know how much i appreciated her help.

so thank you sweet woman who spoke softly, kept the lights dim, and took such loving care of me. you might be doing it again for some other total stranger tonight and i hope they feel the same way i do about you.

my birthday wish this year is for you.
